What a wedding
on the peninsula costs.

Three honest scenarios for Las Terrenas and Samaná — intimate, mid-size, large. All figures in USD, the way destination couples budget. Drawn from real vendors in our directory, not a catalog.

First things first: on the peninsula there are no fixed prices. Vendors quote by date, guest count, format and season. What you see below are typical ranges we've observed across the vendors we vet. Your real quote can land at the low or high end depending on your date and your choices.

What makes your wedding cost more (or less)

Same numbers as the table, but your real quote comes down to five variables:

  1. Date. December–April is high season; expect peak rates. May–November drops 10–25%, especially on venues and catering.
  2. Day of the week. Saturday is the expensive day. Thursday or Sunday drop 10–20%.
  3. Open bar. A premium open bar (whisky, gin, top tequila) doubles the drinks cost versus a basic rum + beer + wine package. It's the single choice that moves the catering budget most.
  4. Décor production. Structures (pergolas, tents, flower walls) climb fast. A well-curated minimalist setup costs a fraction of a "destination Pinterest" build.
  5. Duplicated services. Needing a generator, guest transport, VIP lodging, rented furniture because the venue doesn't include it — these are the costs hiding in the fine print.

How to ask for a useful quote

A vendor's quote is only as good as the information you give them. Before you write, be clear on:

  • An exact date or a 2–3 weekend range (include the day of the week — Saturday vs. Sunday changes the price).
  • Guest count as a tight range ("between 65 and 85", not "around 80").
  • Format: ceremony + cocktail + dinner vs. cocktail only; seated vs. standing dinner; how late the party runs.
  • A specific area or venue if you've decided (it changes transport, logistics, permits).
  • A rough budget. Sharing it doesn't hurt you — it keeps proposals in range. "We have $25,000 for full catering" beats a blind quote.

Frequently asked questions

What does a wedding in Las Terrenas or Samaná cost on average in 2026?

An intimate wedding (20–40 guests) at a private villa typically runs $12,000–$28,000 all in. A mid-size wedding (60–100) at a boutique hotel runs $28,000–$55,000. A large wedding (120+) at a full-service venue starts near $50,000 and can pass $100,000 depending on production.

Which line item inflates the most?

Décor and flowers. It's the category with the widest spread between vendors, and the easiest place to land 40–60% over your initial budget if you don't define the scope first. Catering is second — especially the bar. A premium open bar can double the catering cost versus a basic one.

What does the legal/civil ceremony itself cost?

The administrative cost of a civil ceremony in the DR is modest (roughly $100–$200 in official fees), but as a foreign couple you'll need apostilled documents from home, which can add $300–$800 in paperwork. That's why most foreign couples hold a symbolic ceremony on the peninsula and do the legal marriage back home. See the full legal guide in the Journal.

Is it worth marrying in low season to save?

Yes, with caveats. From June to October some vendors offer 10–25% off for low season, especially venues and catering. The risk is the weather (hurricane season) — you'll need a solid covered plan B. The best value is usually May and November: stable weather, lower demand than December–April.

What's a reasonable deposit to hold a vendor?

30–50% is standard on the peninsula. A premium venue may ask up to 50% to lock a date, with the balance due 60 days out. Catering and flowers usually ask 30–40% on signing and the rest 15–30 days before. Be wary of anyone asking 100% up front.

What currency do you pay in?

It's mixed. Large venues and boutique hotels invoice in USD; catering, décor, photography and local services usually take USD or Dominican pesos interchangeably. Tips are paid in pesos. Confirm the currency and exchange rate in the contract — some vendors use the rate on the day of payment, others fix it at signing.

What does a symbolic ceremony cost versus a legal one in the DR?

A symbolic ceremony has no legal cost — you only pay the officiant (a planner, boat captain, friend, etc.), typically $200–$600. A legal ceremony in the DR for foreigners has a low administrative cost (~$100–$200 in official fees) but requires apostilled documents from your country, which can add $300–$800 in paperwork. Most foreign couples go symbolic on the peninsula and legal at home.
